The sound of Gershwin, from the Roaring Twenties!

Composer George Gershwin at his piano

Composer George Gershwin PBS

The recording horn had fallen in love with George Gerwshwin in 1920 with the hit song "Swanee," and what followed was an avalanche of recorded tunes from his hit Broadway shows. Then, in 1924, he achieved fame in the classical world with Rhapsody in Blue. Early recordings from the 1920s and 1930s recapture the spontaneity and pep of Gershwin's genius. On Saturday at 11, we will sample Gershwin's early recordings.
