Virgil Fox was born in Princeton, Illinois in 1912, and he died in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1980. Only E. Power Biggs challenged Fox for the place of the most famous organist in America. Fox played the enormous organ at Riverside Church from 1946 to 1965. Fox's return concert at Riverside was recorded on May 6, 1979.

On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will hear Fox explaining and playing works from his vast repertory.
