In 1953, the brilliant American pianist William Kapell was returning from a concert tour in Australia when his plane crashed near San Francisco. Unknown to Kapell's widow, many of Kapell's performances had been privately recorded by an Australian record collector. The recordings were returned to Kapell's family in 2004 and released in an album entitled "Kapell Rediscovered."
On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will hear some of these recordings.
