Starting in 2022, many Central Illinois voters must decide on a new representative in a newly shaped 13th congressional district. The Democratic-controlled Illinois General Assembly approved the map, which has western boundaries in East St. Louis along the Mississippi River. The district spreads northeast through the cities of Springfield, and Decatur and ends in Champaign. Two Democratic and four Republican newcomers are hoping to survive the June 28, 2022 primary to compete in the general election to represent the district.
