This Week (Dec 23 - 29, 2013) on “The Evening Concert” on WILL-FM

This week the Evening Concert starts early: on Sunday night at 7:00 with "Welcome, Christmas" and "The Tallis Scholars: Love is Better than Wine". Then Monday night it's the "St. Olaf Christmas Festival"; Tuesday night the "Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols"; Wednesday "Handel's 'Messiah' from Boston"; Thursday "Christmas with the Spelman and Morehouse Glee Clubs" and "A Season's Griot 2013". Friday. ..Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper.

“A Centennial Ceremony of Carols: Benjamin Britten at 100” and “Glad Tidings of Great Joy”

Tonight at 7:00 on WILL-FM it’s the Evening Concert. At 7:00 it’s a ‘Holiday Special’: “A Centennial Ceremony of Carols: Benjamin Britten at 100” with the New England Conservatory’s Chamber Chorus singing the ‘Ceremony of Carols’ and other works by Britten.  At 8:00 it’s another ‘Holiday Special’: “Glad Tidings of Great Joy” with music by Byrd, Praetorius and others.

Rudolf Buchbinder Plays Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto with the CSO

Tonight at 7:00 on WILL-FM it’s “The Evening Concert”. Rudolf Buchbinder is the soloist in Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Riccardo Muti conducts. Also on the program, “Siegfried’s Rhine Journey and Funeral March from Wagner’s “Ring Cycle” and Bruckner’s 1st Symphony.

This week on the Evening Concert we start with Mozart from Milwaukee, then “Siegfried’s Rhine Journey” from Chicago; more  Bach Brandenburg Concertos from San Francisco; Thursday it’s  two Holiday specials: “A Centennial ‘Ceremony of Carols’” and “Glad Tidings of Great Joy”. Friday it’s three Holiday specials: “Jonathan Winter’s ‘Christmas Carol’; “A Jazz Piano Christmas” and “The Winter Solstice Celebration”.
