This Week’s Evening Concerts: June 24 - 28, 2013

This week on the Evening Concert it’s “Beethoven’s 2nd piano Concerto” on the Deutsche Welle Festival Concert; Tuesday it’s Rachmaninoff’s  “3rd Piano Concerto” with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Wednesday it's the Jerusalem String Quartet from Santa Fe; Thursday, Lang Lang plays Tchaikovsky’s “1st Piano Concerto” with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Friday night it's "Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper".

Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet Plays Saint-Saens 5th Piano Concerto

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic.  Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet is the soloist in Saint-Saens 5th Piano Concerto. “Resident Conductor” Lionel Bringuier leads the group.  Also on the program: Ravel’s “Suite Number 2 from (the ballet) Daphnis and Chloe” and “La Valse”.

Andras Schiff plays Bach Keyboard Concertos with the New York Philharmonic

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it's The New York Philharmonic This Week.  Pianist Andras Schiff conducts the group from the keyboard in two of Bach’s “Keyboard Concertos”.  Also on the program, one of the early “String Symphonies” of Mendelssohn and Schumann’s “4th Symphony”.

Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts the German S.O., Berlin in Latin America

Tonight at 7 on The Evening Concert, it’s “The German Symphony-Orchestra of Berlin in Latin America” from Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts. Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts the group in Mahler’s 5th Symphony.  Also on the program, Richard Strauss’ “Don Juan” and Mendelssohn’s “Overture to a Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Guest conductor David Robertson leads the group in Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”. Also on the program: Benjamin Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes” and the West Coast premiere of Steven Mackey’s “Stumble to Grace”.

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert pianist Jeremy Denk and the Tokyo String Quartet play Elgar’s “Piano Quintet” on from “Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”. Also on the program, Bach’s “C Minor Concerto for Violin and Oboe”.  At 8:00 violinist Rachel Barton Pine plays Richard Strauss’ “Violin Sonata” on Center Stage from Wolf Trap.

Isabelle Faust Plays Bach Violin Concertos with the New York Philharmonic

Tonight at 7 on The Evening Concert, it's The New York Philharmonic This Week with an all-Bach program. Violinist Isabelle Faust plays both the E major and A Minor Violin Concertos. Bernard Labadie conducts. Also on the program the 3rd and 4th Orchestral Suites and the Sinfonia from Cantata No.42.

Pianist Yuja Wang at the Piano Festival of the Ruhr

Tonight at 7, we'll have Piano Festival of the Ruhr from the Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts. Young Spanish pianist Juan Perez Floristan plays Ravel’s Sonatina, Debussy’s Children’s Corner Suite and Bartok’s Piano Sonata.  Also on the program, Yuja Wang plays three of the Etude-Tableaux by Rachmaninoff and Scriabin’s 5th Piano Sonata.
