The Evening Concert

Thursday night May 2 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night May 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear Bartok’s “Suite from ‘The Miraculous Mandarin’” and Bernard Herrmann’s “Psycho:  A Narrative for String Orchestra”.

Tuesday night April 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear the complete symphonic poem cycle “Ma Vlast” (My Fatherland) by Bedrich Smetana with guest conductor Jakub Hrůša’s from his CSO debut concert program.

Monday night April 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear an encore presentation of the program that concluded Alan Gilbert’s first season as Music Director of the Philharmonic with the world premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s “Al Largo” followed by Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis”.

Sunday night April 28 the Evening Concert starts at 5:00 o’clock with the “Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”, followed at 6:00 by the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”, at 7:00 by Fiesta, and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Wednesday night April 24 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear Berlioz’s “Symphonie fantastique”, Liszt’s “Totentanz” with pianist Bertrand Chamayou, and Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain”.

Tuesday night April 23 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Anna Rakitina in her CSO debut leading the Orchestra in an all-Tchaikovsky program of the "Capriccio italien," the "Nutcracker Suite”, and the “Rococo Variations” featuring cellist Alisa Weilerstein.

Monday night April 22 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Anne-Sophie Mutter is the violin soloist in “Time Machines” by rock-musician-turned-composer Sebastien Currier. Then you’ll hear Mahler’s “5th Symphony”.  Mahler served as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic from 1909 to 1911.
