The Evening Concert

Program music is defined as music that (usually) has a title given by the composer, written to conjure , for example, an event "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" or place "El Salon meixco", to tell a story, like "Also Sprach Zarathustra" or some other "extra-musical" purpose.

Music compositions in minor keys anecdotally seem to have a lot more emotional content than major keys; it's not scientifically proven, at least not yet?

That would be "Beethoven's "Emperor" Piano Concerto and Berlioz' "Symphonie fantastique".

Compositions from the minds and pens (pencils?) of Beethoven, Berlioz, Strauss, Bernstein, Nielsen and others.

Juho Pohonene is the pianist in the Faure; James Austin Smith is the soloist in the Bach.

McGill became Principal Clarinetist with the NYP in 2014...

You'll hear one of Beethoven's (not the 5th!) and Sibelius' (not the 7th!)

You'll also hear famous music by Debussy and Stravinsky (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and The Rite of Spring).

A concerto for double bass, plus other selections from the A R D Competition, held last summer.

Monday through Thursday and SUnday eves at 7 pm.
