Treasures from Wolfenbüttel

Starting in the late Renaissance, the court at Wolfenbüttel in northern German emerged as a cultural center. The dukes of the house of Welf employed high-profile composers like Michael Praetorius to increase their prestige, but lesser masters like Daniel Selichius made their mark as well. In this edition of Early Music Now, we'll hear from both composers, with performances by the Huelgas Ensemble and Weser-Renaissance Bremen.

Praetorius: Ballet de le Reine; La Bande des Luths

Daniel Selichius: Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied; Selichius: Wohl dem, der den Herren fürchtet;  Selichius: Laudate pueri Dominum; Selichius: Gelobet sei der Herr; Weser Renaissance Bremen

Praetorius: O Lux beata Trinitas; and Summo Parenti Gloria; Jean-Charles Ablitzer, organ

Praetorius: Der CXVI Psalm Davids; Huelgas Ensemble

Praetorius: La Canarie Ricercar Consort
