This week on the Evening Concert we start with Mozart from Milwaukee, then “Siegfried’s Rhine Journey” from Chicago; more  Bach Brandenburg Concertos from San Francisco; Thursday it’s  two Holiday specials: “A Centennial ‘Ceremony of Carols’” and “Glad Tidings of Great Joy”. Friday it’s three Holiday specials: “Jonathan Winter’s ‘Christmas Carol’; “A Jazz Piano Christmas” and “The Winter Solstice Celebration”.

Friday December 20: Holiday Specials:

Jonathan Winters’ “A Christmas Carol” (7 – 8 pm)

Master comedian Jonathan Winters, who passed away in 2013, presents a distinctive reading of Dickens' holiday classic. (A public radio tradition updated this year with NPR host Lisa Simeone.)

 Jazz Piano Christmas XXIX (8 – 9 pm)

Andy Bey, Michelle Rosewoman, Stanley Cowell, and Sullivan Fortner perform their favorite holiday songs from the Kennedy Center.

Paul Winter’s “Winter Solstice Celebration” (9 – 11 pm)

Paul Winter Consort and musicians from all over the world: the holiday tradition continues with a unique exploration of the solstice tradition in cultures near and far.
