This week on the Evening Concert it’s music of Mozart, Haydn, and Mendelssohn on the “A.R.D. Music Competition”, then Carter Brey is the soloist in Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto” in New York; Wednesday it’s Schubert’s famous “Quintet in C” from Santa Fe, then Thursday it’s our repeat broadcast of “The 100-year Shockwave- Stravinsky’s ‘Rite of Spring’”. Friday it’s "Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper".

Thursday August 28: Special (Encore): “The Rite of Spring - The 100-Year-Shock Wave”
In this anniversary documentary, the ballet’s 100 year shock-wave is traced from its initial explosion on May 29th, 1913 right up to the present time. The show features brief interviews and first-hand recollections of the famous first night from Dame Marie Rambert, who was one of the dancers, and Igor Stravinsky, who was in the audience, through memories of the Berlin premiere in 1923 and the 50th anniversary performance in London conducted by Pierre Monteux, who was the original conductor in 1913, up to comments on the work’s enduring power from major artists of today: dancer Dame Monica Mason, and conductors Sir Colin Davis and Valery Gergiev. The program also features extended excerpts from “The Rite of Spring” as conducted by Valery Gergiev.
