Tribute to Oliver Nelson’s The Blues and the Abstract Truth at the Allerton Music Barn Festival

The history of jazz is defined by both great musicians and great recordings like Miles Davis's Kind of Blue, John Coltrane's A Love Supreme and Dave Brubeck's Time Out. Add to that list Oliver Nelson's The Blues and the Abstract Truth from 1961. Saturday night at the Allerton Music Barn Festival in Monticello, the University of Illinois jazz faculty will play a tribute to that record, and two of their number will join me on the Friday edition of Live and Local, along with Oliver Nelson Jr.
