A recent study from the Pew Research Center found that about 1 in 4 Hispanics in the United States have heard of the word Latinx, and just 3% use it to describe themselves. Today, we’ll talk about the origins and usage of the terms Hispanic, Latino and Latinx.

The 21st spoke to two Hispanic Illinois-based politicians, one from each end of the political spectrum on their experience appealing to Hispanic voters. 

There are 2.2 million Hispanic Illinoisians, 17% of the state’s population. We’ll talk to a Pew Researcher who recently co-wrote a study on the issues most important to Hispanic voters in 2020, and speak with some Hispanic leaders from both sides of the aisle.

With the first presidential debate coming on Tuesday night, The 21st recapped it with the chief political reporter for the Chicago Tribune.
