Danville is one of five sites in Illinois awarded tax credits to provide low-income housing for homeless and disabled veterans.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority awarded tax breaks to build sixty-five units of affordable housing for veterans and their families.

Mercy Housing will oversee construction of the property. Vice President for Public Affairs Lisa Kuklinski says the project will provide an opportunity for veterans and their families to be reunited.

”Often times what’s happened is that the veterans will come live in the Danville area, so they can be close to services while leaving their families out in the rural counties across the region," she said.  "So this will be a way for singles and veteran families to be served."

The houses will be built next to the VA Medical Center and the Danville Area Community College. Construction is expected to start next spring.
