Central Illinois Reports First Two West Nile Cases
Two cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Peoria County.
A woman in her 30's and a man in his 50's are the first human cases this year in Central Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said in spite of cooler temperatures, health workers are still seeing cases of the virus.
Currently, the agency is reporting 94 human cases, including three deaths. The first human case of West Nile was reported on July 24.
In 2011, there were 34 human cases, including three deaths, for the entire year.
Common West Nile Virus symptoms include fever, nausea, headache, and muscle aches.
People should continue protecting themselves with insect repellent and removing standing water around homes where mosquitoes can breed.
