Congressman Jackson Selling Home; Cites Medical Costs

Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is selling his house in Washington, in part to help pay for health care costs.

His spokesman released a statement Wednesday saying the Chicago Democrat and his wife are "grappling with soaring health care costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations.''

Jackson has been on medical leave for months. He's being treated for bipolar disorder. Part of his treatment included hospitalization for a few weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

The Victorian-style town house is listed for $2.5 million. It has four bedrooms, five fireplaces, a gourmet kitchen, a sun room and a rooftop deck with a Jacuzzi.

It was put on the market Sept. 8, a day after Jackson's office announced he'd been released from Mayo.
