Coroner: McLean County Body Was Homicide Victim

The McLean County coroner says a man whose torso was found in the Mackinaw River was a homicide victim.

An autopsy was performed Monday on the remains. A fisherman found them Saturday morning near the village of Kappa.

Coroner Beth Kimmerling says preliminary findings indicate the man "died from non-natural injuries that came as a result of another individual's actions.'' She says the man was white, middle-aged or older and had signs of cardiac bypass surgery.

The man has not been identified. The coroner says the death is under investigation by her office, the McLean County sheriff, the McLean County prosecutor and Illinois State Police.

Kappa is about 15 miles south of Bloomington.
