Deadrick Wolfer Suspends Illinois House Campaign

Republican Cindy Deadrick Wolfer of Macon says she is suspending her campaign for state representative in the 96th Illinois House District.
The announcement leaves incumbent State Representative Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) effectively unopposed in her bid for a third term.
In a news release cited by several media outlets, Deadrick Wolfer did not give a reason for her decision. She called it a “difficult decision”, and thanked her supporters. But she said their support was “just not enough in this politically challenging time”.
Bruce Pillsbury is Macon County’s Republican Party Chair.
He says Deadrick Wolfer told him Tuesday she couldn’t dedicate the time to a campaign, on top of owning her own business, and other activities, like director of a women’s golf tournament.
“That’s one thing you have to weigh, is - what about by business, or what about my personal life, or the obligations I already have," he said. "And in this case, and I think to Cindy’s credit, she didn’t want to shortchange anybody in any of those directions for the campaign.”
The district covers parts of Springfield, Decatur, and Christian County.
Pillsbury says he plans to meet with the GOP county chairs in Sangamon and Christian Counties, to see if there’s someone to slate in Deadrick Wolfer's place.
Deadrick Wolfer, a Decatur businesswoman and former Decatur Park Board commissioner, defeated Gary Pierce of Springfield to win the Republican primary in the 96th District.
