Decatur NAACP Criticizes Jury-Selection Process

The Decatur branch of the NAACP is complaining about the juror-selection process after a jury the group described as containing "no diversity'' acquitted a white man charged in the killing of a black man.

Bryson Harden was acquitted last month in the 2012 shooting death of 21-year-old Jarvas Thomas in Decatur.
 
According to the Herald & Review in Decatur, NAACP officials said during a news conference Monday that they would like to see changes.

The group and the parents of Thomas, Edna and Leo Thomas also complained that the Thomas family was treated disrespectfully by court security during the trial.
 
Macon County State's Attorney Jay Scott said race can't be considered in selecting jurors.
 
County Sheriff Thomas Schneider said he will look into family complaints about their treatment.
