Eastern Illinois Foodbank Could Win $10,000 from Kraft
As the University of Illinois' football team gears up to take on UCLA this weekend in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, fans from both team's hometowns are trying to garner enough support for their area food banks.
By "Liking" the Kraft Fight Hunger Facebook page and playing a two-minute trivia game, a user has the chance to donate meals to Feeding America, one of the largest anti-hunger organizations in the country.
Cheryl Precious with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank said if people from east central Illinois win more points on the trivia game than other communities, she said Kraft will give her food bank a $10,000 donation.
"That really means a lot to a smaller food bank," Precious said. "The (Los Angeles Regional Foodbank) is much larger. They have a much larger budget, and I think that we really want this. It will really help us, and it's something we really need right now."
In the last month, the Eastern Illinois Foodbank distributed nearly 550,000 pounds of food to area pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.
Last year as part of its campaign, Kraft Foods donated 21 million meals to Feeding America, and this year, it has set a goal of donating 25 million meals.
