President Trump’s decision to fire Acting Attorney General Sally Yates has also elevated a central Illinois native, Dana J. Boente, to the top law enforcement position.

Boente is a Carlinville native.  He obtained his law degree from St. Louis University.  He began his legal career as a clerk for Chief Judge J. Waldo Ackerman in the Central District of Illinois in 1982, according to the New York Times.

In 2015, President Obama nominated him as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.  The Senate later confirmed him.

He is expected to remain the Acting Attorney General until Trump’s choice for the job, Jeff Sessions, is confirmed.
