Illinois Offers Grants To Boost School Security
Public schools, colleges and universities in Illinois have a few more days to apply for state grants to help pay for security improvements.
Under the program, schools can get financial help for things such as installing reinforced doors, locks and shatter-proof glass.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is reminding schools that the deadline to apply is March 14.
A total of $25 million will be awarded.
Agency Director Jonathon Monken says security equipment is only one part of making a school safe.
He says schools must also plan for emergencies, train their staff and carry out exercises.
