Illinois Voters Can Now Register Online

Starting this week, Illinois residents can register to vote online. This is an attempt to get more people involved in the democratic process.

When visiting the Illinois State Board of Elections website, voters will need an Illinois driver’s license, the last four digits of their Social Security number, and current address.

Champaign County Clerk, Gordy Hulten said more people are handling business online, like paying bills and banking. He said this gives them another option when registering.

“I think the increased convenience is going to be something that’s very attractive to people and hopefully it will result in more people registering to vote and ultimately more people voting,” Hulten said.

Some administrators are concerned about the possibility of voter fraud. Hulten said there are enough safety measures in place to outweigh those possibilities.

Registration is available now at the Illinois State Board of Elections website.
