New Law Automatically Registers People To Vote
While a new Illinois law allows for easier voter registration, the Champaign County Clerk is warning potential voters to double-check their status.
Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten says when Illinois residents renew their driver’s license or update their information at any state agency, a new state law directs that agency to automatically register that person to vote, or update their voter registration records.
"That data is then sent to the State Board of Elections, the State Board of Elections then sorts it by jurisdiction, and sends us in Champaign County the voter registration changes that would be appropriate in Champaign County," Hulten said.
Hulten added voters should always double check their registration status before a primary or general election.
