Schnucks Seeks Venue Change in Card-Breach Lawsuit
The Schnucks supermarket chain wants an Illinois lawsuit related to a security breach affecting up to 2.4 million credit and debit cards of its customers moved to a federal court.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Maryland Heights, Mo.-based Schnucks Markets has filed a motion in St. Clair County Circuit Court to move the lawsuit, saying a federal venue would be more appropriate given
potential damages.
The lawsuit was filed last month on behalf of a shopper at a Schnucks store in Belleville during the time the company says customers' accounts may have been compromised. Two other lawsuits have been filed in Missouri.
Schnucks has said the breach dated to December and came to light in March.
Many customers have reported fraudulent charges, including thousands of customers in the Champaign-Urbana area. Schnucks has said the lawsuit is meritless.
