Sen. Kirk Working On Immigration Reform
U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk is taking a stance on immigration legislation that's gaining momentum in the Senate.
The Republican from Illinois said Thursday that he's been working with colleagues to craft immigration reform. He says the measure he's been working on will secure the U.S. border to the south and create a "tough but fair'' path to citizenship. Kirk says he'll vote for immigration reform when the Senate adopts the amendment.
Lawmakers on Thursday in Washington neared a bipartisan compromise to stiffen the bill's border security requirements without delaying legalization for millions living in the country unlawfully.
Under the compromise, the government would grant legal status to immigrants living in the United States illegally while the additional security was being put into place.
