There’s still time to get a flu shot, and public health officials say it’s a good idea to get one now, as the holiday season begins.

Dr. Arwais Vaid with the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District reported the number of flu cases is starting to increase and should peak in February or March, so now is good time to get a flu shot.

"It takes a few weeks for immunity to build so the sooner you get the flu shot the better it is," Vaid said. He added there is plenty of flu vaccine available for everyone. And he adds that the vaccine this year is mixed to effectively combat the flu strains present in the United States.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone over six months of age to get a flu shot.
