University Of Illinois Plans Committee To Review Kilgore Decision

A former member of the radical 1970s group the Symbionese Liberation Army who was told recently he can no longer teach at the University of Illinois could see that decision reversed.

Ilesanmi Adesida is provost at the Urbana-Champaign campus. He told The News-Gazette Monday that he plans to appoint a committee to review the decision to no longer hire James Kilgore. Adesida now says it isn't final.

Kilgore, 66, said last week Adesida told him he wouldn't be hired in the future and declined to tell him why.

Kilgore was released from prison in 2011 after serving six years for his role in the killing of housewife Myrna Opsahl during a 1975 bank robbery in California.

He now teaches at the university and has worked there since 2011.
