Vermilion County Manufacturing Industries Offer Tour

Business leaders in Danville hope a rare weekend tour of its manufacturing sector might play a role in shaping some careers.

Vermilion Advantage CEO Vicki Haugen said Saturday's public tour of facilities like Danville Metal Stamping and Watchfire comes at the suggestion of school counselors and more specialized groups, saying that others should understand what goes on there.

“Obviously, you know there’s a push nationally to get the public to understand today’s manufacturing environment," she said.  "The opportunity is there, the demand is there, and certainly the change in the environment of the skill sets.”

There are some age restrictions about the Vermilion County Tour of Industries that runs from 10 to 2:30 Saturday at five different stops.  Other visits on the tour include Fiberteq, ThyssenKrupp Presta and ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft.

Most of the industrial sites restrict those under the age of ten, and no photography or phones are allowed.
