Warrants Issued for July 4th Shooting Suspects

By Jeff Bossert

Champaign Police say arrest warrants have been issued for two men in connection with a July 4th shooting death on the city's northwest side.

Both 19-year old Treshaun Jake and 20-year old Anthony Meads of Champaign are currently in custody in Vermilion County on unrelated charges.

On July 4th at about 10:30 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the 1500 block of Cruising Lane, and found 20-year old Desirae Austin suffering from a single gunshot wound.  She later died at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Police took Jake and Meads into custody that night for questioning.  Meads was arrested on a weapons charge, and Jake was released after providing police with a statement.

Champaign Police say bail is listed for each man at $1-million.

The police department urges anyone with additional information about this incident to contact Champaign Police or Crimestoppers.
