Prairie Fire: Season 2 - Episode 7 - April 2025

On this episode of Prairie Fire, we sit down with Illinois Poet Laureate and Pulitzer prize nominee Angela Jackson to discuss her extraordinary career. We explore Bob Chapman's studio, a local artist who experiments in many mediums. Then, we visit Sadorus, IL for a trip to the National Museum of Ship Models and Sea History. It's a tight squeeze but makes for a good game of "I Spy."

And finally, Dr. Joy Yang joins us in our studio for a very special performance of "Basso Ostinato"

Angela Jackson - Illinois Poet Laureate

Angela Jackson poems are vivid reflections of human choices and a human sense of identity filtered through the lens of her own colorful upbringing on Chicago's South Side. They also address our weaknesses and flaws with musicality and humor.

Bob Chapman - Artist

He started in needlepoint and embroidery but nowadays, artist Bob Chapman loves experimenting with many mediums. His colorful, eye-catching works have won him awards and a steady clientele.

National Museum of Ship Models and Sea History - Sadorus, IL.

Take a trip to Sadorus, Illinois to explore a museum with emphasis on the history of the exploration of the world. You pretty much can trace the history of civilization through ships and ship building, from prehistoric times with the early ships, to the Vikings to the exploration of the Mediterranean, and then eventually the Silk Road to the Far East for spices.

Dr. Joy Yang performs "Basso Ostinato"

We are treated to a very special performance in our studio from Dr. Joy Yang, a performing artist specialising in piano and theremin. Her music is anchored in the roots of
classical, jazz, electronic music and omni-idiomatic free improvisation, and she also branches into the realms of visual arts, singing and dance.
