Brass Blowout

On this week's Prairie Performances, Friday at 7 pm on WILL-FM 90.9Tonight‘s concert with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony with conductor Stephen Alltop is themed “Brass Blowout.”  The brasses will be featured, beginning with Wagner’s Overture to “Rienzi”, followed by Robert Schumann’s “Concert Piece for 4 Horns” spotlighting the “Four Horns of the Apocalypse” that is to say the orchestra’s four horn players: Bernard Scully; Thomas Jostlein; Marc Zyla; and Steven Burian.  Next a trip to Spain with selections from Manuel de Falla’s “Three Cornered Hat.”  The concert ends in a blaze of orchestral color with Ravel’s “Bolero.”
