Champaign-Urbana Symphony’s “Voyages” Concert
Champaign-Urbana Symphony
Stephen Alltop, conductor
The concert opens with a musical voyage, beginning with the dramatic portrayal of Scotland’s Hebrides Islands by the well-traveled Felix Mendelssohn. John Corigliano’s Voyage for Flute and Strings soars with lyric expression and lush harmonies. Finally, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade weaves a tale of Arabian princes and sailing ships into one of the most colorful orchestral works ever written.
