From the Archive: Carmina Burana
On tonight's archive episode of Prairie Performances, you can hear Carl Orff's stunning cantata, Carmina Burana as performed by the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. Composed in 1935 and 1936, the work borrows texts from a medieval manuscript of the same name. While the content of the text varies widely, Orff identifies the turning tides of Fate as a recurring theme, perhaps best illustrated in the opening movement “O Fortuna.”
