Prairie Performances: Revisiting English Composers

Portraits of Henry Purcell, Edward Elgar, and Hubert Parry.

On this week’s archive episode of Prairie Performances, we revisit our episode showcasing works of English composers. We will hear selections from Henry Purcell’s Suite from Abdelazar or “The Moor’s Revenge,” which was written to accompany a tragic tale of vengeance and betrayal. After that, Hubert Parry’s Suite in F major or “Lady Radnor’s Suite,” Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings in E minor Op. 20, and Frank Bridge’s Suite for String Orchestra. One of these works was commissioned for an all-female string orchestra. Want to guess which?

Find out Thursday March 5 at 7pm CST on Illinois Classical 90.9.
