Prairie Performances: “Weekend Jazz”
By Mel Miller
I know Thursday nights can be tough. You’re feeling ready for the weekend, even though we aren’t quite there yet, and you’re just watching that clock waiting for your Friday evening to start. Well, seeing as the weekend is right around the corner, I thought we’d start the night off with a little pick-me-up, something to get you energized and ready to dance into your Friday work day. The name of the song is “Machito Forever,” which is of course a nod to the great Latin jazz musician, Frank Grillo, better known as Machito, who brought that Cuban sound to US Jazz. You’ll hear that Afro-Cuban influence echoed here by the Steven Oquendo Latin Jazz Orchestra, on this episode of Prairie Performances.
This episode of Prairie Performances airs Thursday, November 13th at 7 PM, only on Illinois Classical 90.9.
