Prairie Performances

Prairie Performances: Composers of the Spanish-Speaking World.

On this week’s archive episode of Prairie Performances, we feature composers of the Spanish-speaking world. From the tango rhythms of Argentina  to the cante jondo of Andalusian flamenco, tonight’s pieces draw on the rich and diverse practices of Hispanophone music. First, we will hear the influences of spanish guitar in Alberto Ginastera’s Variaciones Concertantes as performed by the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. After that, Astor Piazzolla sounds out Argentinian bandoneon, an instrument perhaps best known for its involvement in tango music. Finally, we end the evening with Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra as performed by the Illinois Symphony Orchestra featuring Robert Belinic on guitar.

This episode premieres Thursday, October 23rd at 7PM, only on Illinois Classical 90.9.
