Illinois Public Media stands in solidarity with the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities

Illinois Public Media condemns all acts of racism, misogyny, and inequity—something that continues to plague and divide our nation—and we stand in solidarity with the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities.

The unfortunate truth is that racial scapegoating and racist, xenophobic, and violent acts toward the AAPI communities are nothing new—America’s anti-Asian rhetoric can be seen and felt throughout history—but the rise in these behaviors and actions is downright disturbing.

To our Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander staff, friends, partners, and audience members, Illinois Public Media wants you to know you are an essential part of our community. We see you, and we pledge to do better at representing you, both in the programs we offer and the people we hire.

We have a responsibility to recognize our shared humanity, and as your local public media organization, we believe we can play an important role in realizing that. We are striving to make our journalism, programming, and educational resources more accurately reflect the diversity, the accomplishments, and the experiences of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander people.

We have a long way to go, but we are committed to making progress towards greater understanding, hope, and healing.
