Today's Lesson: The Native American Experience
Native American Heritage Month has evolved from its beginnings as "American Indian Week” in 1986—just a week-long celebration over the Thanksgiving holiday—to now annual presidential proclamations designating the entire month of November as the time for all of us to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, histories, and important contributions of Indigenous people. Beginning with Thanksgiving and running through the New Year, our Social Justice Learning space will be focusing on Native American experience, from celebrating accomplishments to acknowledging the distinctive set of challenges American Indians and Alaska Natives have had to face for centuries—and still face today.
