The Danville District 118 School Board voted Wednesday night to permanently close flood-damaged Cannon Elementary School, and re-organize district classes to adjust to the loss of the building.

A memo to parents from Superintendent Alicia Geddis calls closing the 100-year old Cannon Elementary School "a precautionary measure."  She says the long-term plan is to fix any problems to have it ready in time for the 2016-2017 school year. 

Danville District 118's new superintendent, Alicia Geddis, doesn't start until July 1, but says she's already familiar with some policies there, and will learn from retiring Superintendent Mark Denman.
