Illinois has an official proposal to legalize recreational cannabis, but the bill language is still a work in progress. On Wednesday, legislators in the Senate Executive committee were able to pick apart details of the legislation and make suggestions for changes. 

While Illinois’ historic 22-month budget impasse has again dominated the legislative session in Springfield, state lawmakers have also grappled with how to respond to Chicago’s gun violence. 

All Illinois residents pay the same income tax rate. Now a plan is afoot to change that, with a constitutional amendment, to have the wealthy pay more.

Lawmakers got a look at Governor Bruce Rauner's school funding proposal Tuesday.  Rep. Christian Mitchell (D-Chicago) and Forrest Claypool, the head of Chicago Public Schools says the plan is a continuation of a "reverse Robin Hood'' education policy where rich districts get more and poor districts get less.
