The Illini Chabad Center for Jewish Life will celebrate the second night of Hanukkah Wednesday night by dedicating a new menorah.

University of Illinois softball player Ruby Fernandez-Rivera has entered an agreement that could keep a conviction off her record for damaging a menorah at the Chadbad Center for Jewish Life near campus last month.

Suspended University of Illinois softball player Ruby Rivera has apologized for damaging a menorah at an orthodox Jewish student center near the Urbana campus.

A member of the University of Illinois women's softball team, Ruby A. Fernandez-Rivera, has been issued a notice to appear in court in connection with the weekend vandalizing of the menorah outside the Illini Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Champaign.  She's been suspended indefinitely from the team, while the other student involved, identified only as a male gymnast, will miss the next two competitions.

Damage to the symbol outside the University of Illinois' Chabad Jewish Center is estimated at about $2,269.  The menorah had already been replaced after vandals knocked it over in spring 2015.
