A member of the University of Illinois women's softball team, Ruby A. Fernandez-Rivera, has been issued a notice to appear in court in connection with the weekend vandalizing of the menorah outside the Illini Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Champaign. She's been suspended indefinitely from the team, while the other student involved, identified only as a male gymnast, will miss the next two competitions.
Damage to the symbol outside the University of Illinois' Chabad Jewish Center is estimated at about $2,269. The menorah had already been replaced after vandals knocked it over in spring 2015.
