Illinois has already seen significant tornado activity this year. Most people head for shelter when severe weather hits, but others run toward the storm. Our friends at Illinois Public Media's Weather Realness recently spoke with two people who chase storms and tornadoes professionally.

While most people take shelter during a tornado warning, professional storm chasers are on the road trying to study and capture them with pictures or videos. A meteorologist and severe weather enthusiast joined us to talk about how they storm chase safely.

Meteorologist Andrew Pritchard says he saw his first tornado from his back door in Urbana. Since that day in 1996, Illinois has seen its fair share of twisters.

Heavy storms, including a tornado near the town of Good Hope, caused damage in western Illinois Tuesday night.
