The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the biggest federal program aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty that millions of Americans find themselves in — sometimes for a few months, sometimes for several years.

Recent news stories have noted that those enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps, have a higher rate of obesity than the general population.  Does that mean the program causes obesity?
