Heavy storms including tornadoes are blamed for two deaths in Illinois overnight.

Authorities say one person was killed in the LaSalle County town of Ottawa when he was struck by an uprooted tree.

And in southern Illinois, the White County Coroner says a suspected tornado hit a small building near a house in the Crossville area, killing a 71-year-old man and injuring his wife.

There are no reports of injuries, but at least two rural properties were destroyed near Homer and Broadlands.  Meterologist Jeff Frame says he estimates the tornado, which stayed on the ground for 17 minutes, as an EF-2 based on the level of damage. There are also reports of at least one more tornado and some damage in Vermilion County.

Lee and Grundy Counties in northern Illinois have been declared state disaster areas by Gov. Bruce Rauner, after possible tornadoes caused severe damage in the towns of Coal City and Sublette.
