100 Seconds To Midnight

It feels sometimes that the world is coming apart at the seams; and last week the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists reminded us that the feeling is literal.

Since 1947, the scientific publication has calculated how close humanity has gotten to self-inflicted destruction.

They’re behind The Doomsday Clock: that’s essentially a metaphor, which shows that the closer we are to midnight, the closer we are to apocalypse.

Last Thursday, the Illinois-based Bulletin moved the clock from “two minutes to midnight” to “one hundred seconds to midnight.” That’s the closest to midnight it’s ever been.

Rachel Bronson is President and CEO of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, she joined us.
