Until recently, many could not fathom the possibility of another large ground war in Europe, much less the reality of one. Nonetheless, that reality is playing out in Ukraine, and its moral, economic, and political shocks reverberate from the frontlines to the rest of the world.

Early in the war, we spoke with Ian Kelly, currently ambassador in residence at Northwestern University. A lot has changed in the two months since Russia first invaded Ukraine, and so today on The 21st we checked in again with Ambassador Kelly for an update.

GUEST:

Ambassador Ian Kelly

Current: Ambassador in residence, Northwestern University | Former: U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, U.S. Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, State Department spokesperson, Director of the Office of Russian Affairs in Washington, D.C.
