Ambassador Ian Kelly on Ukraine
Russia’s war on Ukraine continues to extract a horrible price in deaths, displacement, and human suffering. We in America are also feeling the financial costs of the war — with gas prices climbing to $4.60 across much of downstate Illinois. Yesterday, President Biden stepped up America’s economic response by banning imports of Russian oil, coal, and natural gas.
In order to get a better understanding of where the conflict stands today and where it came from, we talked with someone who had deep experience in the region: Former ambassador, State Department official, and Russia expert Ian Kelly. He’s currently ambassador-in-residence at Northwestern University.
GUEST:
Amb. Ian Kelly
Current Ambassador in residence, Northwestern University | Former U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, U.S. Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, State Department spokesperson, and Director of the Office of Russian Affairs in Washington, D.C.
