If you’ve lived in Illinois between 2011 and 2020 and uploaded a picture of your face to Facebook, then you may be eligible to file a claim and receive up to $400 from Facebook’s settlement fund from a class-action lawsuit. The largest privacy consumer settlement in our country’s history was made by Facebook when the social media giant agreed to pay out $650 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged Facebook violated Illinois’ biometric privacy law.

The 21st was joined by a Chicago-based class action lawyer who represented Facebook users in the case against Facebook and a reporter at Vox who covers personal data and privacy.

Guests:

Jay Edelson, a Chicago-based Class Action Lawyer who represented Facebook users in the case
