Editor's Note: This segment originally aired in June 2020.

Illinois cannot enter the fifth and final phase of its plan to reopen the state until a vaccine for COVID-19 is developed. There are more than 100 coronavirus vaccines currently in development around the world, and a small number have moved into clinical trials, including here in Illinois. This month The University of Illinois Chicago began testing a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. The 21st speaks to the lead investigator on the clinical trial.

Guest:

Dr. Richard Novak, head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at The University of Illinois Chicago Health and lead investigator on the clinical trial
