ENCORE: The Great Indoors

Editor's Note: This segment originally aired in June 2020.

North Americans spend nearly 90 percent of their time inside, and for many of us during the pandemic, we’ve grown to know the four walls of the various rooms in our home better than ever before. Perhaps you’ve developed a new appreciation for that window you can now work next to if the office you used to commute is lacking natural light?  Or maybe you’ve wondered what sort of microbes are living in your house with you?

The 21st speaks to an author and journalist who explores the many indoor environments, both private and public spaces — from operating rooms to prisons.

Guests:

Emily Anthes, science journalist and author of “The Great Indoors: The Surprising Science of How Buildings Shape Our Behavior, Health, and Happiness”
